Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Review

As you can see from lebovo below, the X61s scored well compared to other recent notebooks even though its CPU runs at half the power. Lenovo includes an additional fan with models equipped with the WWAN card, but this may not activate if the card is not in use. I found the battery life to net between four to five hours of use on the 8-cell extended battery.

The AC adapter on the X61s is very small which is nice for an ultraportable. ThinkPad owners value function lenpvo form. The touchpad or lack thereof will probably come as a shock to most users seeing only the red cap of the ThinkPad Touchpoint.


The X61s has been a nice contrast to my R It is of course black and squared like all ThinkPads.

The right palm rest, which I think is where the WiFi card is located, and the underside of the notebook, were the warmest areas. We have had this model for three years for school, and on the first year, I was on the verge of breaking.

This may be a result of the fine sensitivity I had it set to, but it was lenlvo to duplicate the problem enough to pinpoint the cause. I burned lneovo few audio CDs and the recovery discs. It seemed a bit unnecessary since you can do all this in all elsewhere in Windows, but I suppose it is nice to have in one spot.

The speakers inside the X61 are very weak, and I would have to suggest wearing headphones for watching movies. With the UltraBase, Lenovo has you covered. There was a whopping 98 processes when I booted into Vista which I think contributed to slower boot times. Vertical viewing angles are not that good — quickly inverting colors at the slightest change of angle from being perpendicular to the screen.

The dock has two additional USB ports, the eject mechanism and button. I understand it is small notebook, but something above XGA would be nice. I was also surprised by how easy it was to upgrade the ram in the X61, by removing a access panel on the bottom of the laptop.


The dock has a lock and the Ultra Bay. I personally found sitting at the PC for that amount of time difficult. Alright, first things first.

Despite being born to travel, the X61s is going to spend some time at home or the office. It is very affordable now…. This X61s did not have the Turbo Memory, though it is available on other models. Even so I found transitioning to the Touchpoint to be painless, and I even found myself using it on my T60 without realizing it. I attached the dock for the pictures so you could see what you get with that as well.

It is located on the underside of the notebook. At the brightest setting it is perhaps lenpvo tad washed out, but fine for normal use.

Just press the center button and it flies. This review will focus on the low power X61s. One thing that surprised me was the loose screen. Heat output from the laptop is more than you x61a expect from such a small machine.
